Project: DEFORCE Nonprofit Vote

January 31st, 2012 by admin

We are proud to announce the opening of the Project: DEFORCE Nonprofit Vote.

The Vote is being held concurrent with the release of the documentary in an effort to encourage viewers to get constructively engaged with the City.

Deforce was created to raise awareness about critical issues that confront Detroit and their historical roots. But beyond raising awareness we recognize what is needed today is active engagement.

The nonprofit organizations featured in the Vote need your support.

We encourage you to look across the list of organizations find one whose mission you support- one that inspires you- and do something. Whether that something consists of a vote or going beyond and making a donation to the group of money or time, your effort will be deeply appreciated.

You can access the Vote screen by clicking the “Vote Here” button at the top of the site or through this link: www.deforcemovie.com/vote-here

Thank you for your time and interest.

Project: DEFORCE

What happened in Detroit?

It is a common question from those new to the City. Driving by the empty homes and buildings, one can feel the abandonment of hopes and dreams. Why would so many people leave property that was once decent so quickly?

Answers abound. But the simple one is: Politics.

It is how power has been divided in this land from the City and County to State and Federal governments.

And the reason it is so challenging to answer the question: “What happened in Detroit?” The reason major media tends to avoid it, is because the answer rests at the very roots of political power in America today.

So, it is not an easy question to answer. But if we are willing to move past the prejudices instilled in us by the political powers that be, to listen to the opinions of others, and to accept our responsibility as members of this community, we will find the answer.

The goal of Project: DEFORCE is to help enable people along this path. To assist in asking the question: “What happened in Detroit?” And to provide the outlets and support that will allow people to not only answer that question, but also to answer the more important question: “What is happening in Detroit and how can I be a part of it?”
